What to Expect on a Family Departure – And How is This Different From a Regular Departure?

May 26, 2016 by Meg Rulli 2 Comments

With Ecoventura’s choice Family departures for next year already starting to fill up, now is the perfect time to plan your family’s Spring Break for 2017 (departures begin March 12th). These popular departures are currently available, but are likely to be booked up by September!

The Spring is also the perfect time during the school break to take a vacation with the entire family to explore the Galapagos! If this sounds like something you and the family would be interested in, you may be wondering what the differences are between other departures and our Family Departures.

13077079_10153597571006547_1793645308760318096_nEcoventura welcomes families with children ages 12 and up on any week on all expedition vessels. However, families with children as young as age 5  must travel on one of our designated Family Departures.

Family Departures are geared towards families who prefer to travel with other families with similar aged children. Designated Family Departures are offered over school breaks and feature age-appropriate activities, depending on the ages and number of children on board. Our Naturalists are excellent at bringing the Galapagos to life on the Family Departures, balance learning with family fun for all guests.

Before you book your trip with Ecoventura, here are a few things you need to know about Family Departures to help you make the best decision:

  • Family Departure itineraries are very active and move at a faster pace. Our guides will optimize the longer routes on the trails and all kayaking and now stand up paddles board as well as snorkeling opportunities, with less down time during the mid-day.
  • We sell our Family Departures exclusively for families traveling to children.  Therefore, it is rare to have a mixture of adult couples on the same yacht as families.
  • We prefer for our Family Departures to be exclusively for families traveling with kids ages 7 to 17+ (and even college ages 18 to early twenties), so we can organize our schedule to the activity level for families.
  • If there is sufficient demand, we may have both Eric and Letty with families on board and will make every effort to assign similar ages of children together on the same yacht.  Our new luxury vessel, MV ORIGIN also has weeks designated for family departures.

In addition, February 19th-26th (Winter break) still has spots available on our departures – Don’t miss out!

I am a Senior and would like to travel without family in fall. Do you have trips then? Is it the same price pp or less in fall?
    Thanks,
    M. Prouty
