Maximum exposure – a picture perfect photography voyage in 2023

AUTHOR The Ecoventura Team

Teeming with extraordinary wildlife and spectacular terrestrial and marine landscapes, the Galapagos is renowned as one of the world’s leading photography destinations.

Whether you’re an amateur photographer or a fanatical pro, here’s your chance to get snap happy to really capture everything on offer in this remarkable archipelago.

The Galapagos is famous for rare wildlife sightings, with the creatures that inhabit these islands legendary in their curiosity and confidence – behaviour that experts believe may have evolved due to a lack of natural predators for many of the larger animals that live on and around the Galapagos.

You’ll be able to get closer than you thought possible to countless animal and bird life – imagine sea lions basking in the sun metres from your lens, comical dancing boobies playing up to the camera and skittish Sally lightfoot crabs and marine iguanas scuttling to and fro. And with all against the backdrop of dramatic volcanic landscapes, untouched beaches and crystal clear waters, with warm natural light and kaleidoscopic array of colours. A photographer’s dream!

For a number of years Ecoventura has run a series of successful photography expeditions to the Galapagos.

With specialist naturalist guides, who are certified photography instructors on board for the duration of the voyage, offering photography enthusiasts a chance to hone their camera skills and learn the cunning tricks behind taking the perfect shot, these ever-popular voyages sell out fast.

Our latest themed photography departures are now confirmed for the following dates:

Itinerary A: Southern & Central Route –October 22-29 2023

Itinerary B: Northern & Western Route – October 29-November 5 2023

This is one of the best times to travel to the archipelago because tourism numbers are lower than in the busy summer months, temperatures are balmy, the natural light is great and the wildlife is in its prime.

Irrespective of your level of photography experience, passengers are sure to come away with photos to last a lifetime.

Accompanying guests on this year’s photography voyages will be our two brilliant experts Antonio Adrian and Fernando Sanchez.

Antonio Adrian

Naturalist and certified photography instructor Antonio Adrian has degrees in environmental and educational sciences and has published numerous books and papers on natural history, evolution and environmental management.

He has travelled extensively around the world and is also a qualified dive specialist – who better to have around when travelling the Galapagos?

Fernando Sanchez

National Geographic Society-trained photography instructor and naturalist Fernando Sanchez has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the Galapagos having worked in the archipelago for many years.

In addition to his wonderful knowledge and familiarity of the creatures that inhabit the islands, Fernando also specializes in sustainable development and environmental education, so can provide fascinating insight in to the human side of the Galapagos.

Between them our dynamic duo have years of experience as both naturalist guides and photography instructors, and will be on hand for tips and impromptu classes whilst exploring the landscapes.

Antonio and Fernando will show you how to better understand your camera and explain the technical aspects of composing and framing the perfect shot. You’ll come away with a mine of information about the astonishing flora and fauna that thrive in this delicate ecosystem, a host of incredible shots and some unforgettable memories.

Our photographic tours allow you to spend more time ashore around sunrise and sunset, when the light is at its best.

Our guides will take you to untouched corners of the archipelago, helping you to capture creative close-up shots of the Galapagos wildlife in optimal light – look out for posers such as the magnificent frigate bird with its puffed up red chest, pink flamingos pirouetting en masse and blue footed boobies demonstrating their elaborate courtship dance.

It goes without saying that the landscape is dramatic and each island quite unique, offering endless opportunities to capture the stunning scenery.

For those with the time and the inclination, we are delighted to offer back-to-back departures, allowing guests to fully immerse themselves in the region and perfect those photography skills.
