SUNDAY I
Upon arriving in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno (SCY) on San Cristóbal Island, our guides will be ready to escort you to your assigned vessel. Following a brief bus ride and Zodiac transfer to the yacht anchored in the bay, you'll receive your cabin assignment and be treated to a delightful buffet lunch. A short safety drill and the selection of snorkel equipment will be required. As the yacht sets sail, you can choose from a variety of guidebooks or fiction in the library. Alternatively, climb to the sundeck for a circumnavigation around "Kicker Rock" (Leon Dormido = Sleeping Lion), an ancient volcanic rock shaped by erosion over thousands of years that protrudes from the open ocean.
Join your guide on deck for an exploration of the Southern skies, filled with stars, weather permitting. If you are assigned to the Evolve, your vacation will start with a delicious buffet lunch before heading to San Cristóbal's Breeding Center. Here, you'll learn about the breeding program for giant tortoises established by the National Park to ensure the thriving of these animals despite the endangered status of some species. At the visitor center, you'll have the opportunity to learn about the evolution of tortoises and the threats they face, from invasive species to habitat loss. Along the trail, your first exposure to Galapagos wildlife may include the San Cristóbal mockingbird and Calandrinia plant, both endemic to this island.
Upon returning to either yacht, after a briefing, the captain and crew will welcome you with a cocktail reception and a briefing of the next day’s activities. With the small number of passengers on your yacht, you'll have the opportunity to dine with the captain later in the week. For tonight, enjoy meeting your fellow passengers as our kitchen staff treats you to a multi-course dinner with complimentary wine.
