On the evening of Saturday, April 16th, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the northwestern coast of Ecuador in the province of Manabi. Thankfully, our passengers, crew, and Ecoventura cruises have been (and remain) unaffected by the quake.
However, damage was felt up to 190 miles away from the originating site (in the small town of Muisne). The devastation in numerous northern coastal towns is significant. Our thoughts and prayers are with those directly impacted by the earthquake.
Many of our guests have reached out to us asking how they can help support Ecuador. We thank you for your concern and support and want to share with you information around the Ecuador relief aid. We currently have two ways you can help:
1 – Donate to help support Ecuador
Our partner organization, the International Galapagos Tour Operators Association (IGTOA.org), recommends that support and donations be sent to The Water Bearers – an Ecuadorian-based nonprofit encouraging women to step into leadership and run campaigns to raise funds for clean water systems. As part of the relief efforts, 100% of donations to The Water Bearers will go towards directly providing victims of the earthquake with a safe sources of water.
With water certainly a major issue in the aftermath of the quake, clean water is vital and an immediate need.
